Sabarimala

The holy temple of Lord Ayyappa is on  the picturesque Sabarimala hill. Surrounded by the Karimala and Neelimala hills, Sabarimala is an important place of pilgrimage, visited by thousands of devotees during the pilgrimage season (Mandala)between the second half of November and the first part of January. En route is the mosque dedicated to Vavar, supposed to be a comrade of the Lord. All the devotees visit this shrine, irrespective of their religion. Before climbing Sabarimala, devotees take a holy bath in the river Pamba,after which it is a 5km trek to the temple.The temple is open to people of all religions and races.

Sabarimala Temple of Sree Ayyappa

On the particular day of 'Makara Vilakku' lakhs of devotees throng around the temple for a glimpse of 'Makara Jyothi'. However, girls above 10years of age and women below 60 years are not allowed into the temple. This is situated 72 kms from Pathanamthitta, and reachable by Bus service.

An ancient church, supposed to have been built by the Apostle StThomas, is situated here. This is situated 7 kms from Thiruvalla, and reachable from Thiruvalla by Bus service.

It is a christian pilgrimage centre. This is situated 10 kms from Thiruvalla.

Kaviyoor Temple

The Kaviyoor temple and the nearby rock-cut temple are on the banks of the river Manimala.The stone figures here are supposed to be some of the earliest specimen of stone age culture. This is situated 10 kms from Pathanamthitta, and reachable from Thiruvalla by Bus service.

Sree Vallabha Temple
An important pilgrim centre, this temple has a granite pillar carved out of single piece with an image of 'Garuda' (an eagle of religious importance being the vehicle of Lord Vishnu) on its top. The pillar is 60 feet high. Kathakali, the folk art of Kerala, is performed almost on all days in this temple. This is situated at Thiruvalla.
